This website is maintained by Douglas and Rachel Gilmour. We are based in Santiago, Chile between 2005 and 2008.
Douglas is a transport planner and economist. He graduated from the University of St. Andrews in 2001 with an M.A. (Hons) Economics-Geography. He then worked for three years with the transport and engineering consultancy, Halcrow Group Ltd., where he was a member of the consulting business group, advising a range of public and private sector clients, both national and international. Between 2004 and 2005, he completed an M.A. Transport Economics at the Institute for Transport Studies in Leeds.
He currently works as a consultant to small and medium sized enterprises, in the UK and in Chile, offering analysis and support in the development of business processes, decision-making and risk management. He also offers marketing advisory, web design and project management services. His research interests include the economic impacts of climate change and carbon off-set programmes, transport strategy development and implementation and transport in developing countries.

Rachel is an astronomer. She graduated from the University of Oxford in 2001 with an MSc. in Astrophysics. Following a year of service in a refugee camp in The Gambia, she studied for a PhD in Astronomy at the Royal Observatory Edinburgh, which she completed in 2005. Her thesis considered AGN in high redshift galaxy clusters using X-ray astronomy data collected by the Chandra space telescope.
She currently holds a Fellowship post, at the European Southern Observatory, based in Santiago, Chile and at Cerro Paranal, near Antofagasta, northern Chile where she operates one of the VLT’s for 80 nights per year.
